ONEWORLD and Xypnos Develop Embedded Linux-based OS

ONEWORLD Software Solutions, in collaboration with Xypnos Technologies, developed XypOS, an embedded, Linux-based operating system that gives standard electrical appliances Internet access.

Xypnos Technologies' Device Independent Network Architecture (DINA) technology has the potential to transform any embedded electrical or microcontroller-based device into an intelligent, fully Internet-enabled device. A household or industrial appliance installed with the DINA-adapted embedded device can be controlled through any Web browser and adapt its behavior based on live, dynamic data delivered via standard Internet protocols.

Just like any embedded device, a DINA-enabled device needs an operating system that manages its resources, such as memory and network connections. ONEWORLD created XypOS, a streamlined, network-based Linux operating system that provides the underlying embedded environment for DINA.

One example of an appliance enabled with DINA intelligence running on XypOS would be a standard home radio capable of receiving Web radio programming from anywhere in the world. Another illustration would be a DINA-aware VCR. A remote user could use any Internet-enabled workstation to program the VCR to record a television show.
