Syncing Up with JavaBy Michael Foley Nexthaus has introduced their device synchronization and management software based on Java and SyncML technologies. SyncSuite software synchronizes data between devices, such as desktops or laptops running on MacOSX, Windows, Solaris, or Linux operating systems and digital mobile phones or PDAs. SyncSuite provides personal information management and synchronization for the mobile workforce. SyncSuite provides a sync engine, a comprehensive personal information management platform, a multi-type messaging center, and wireless modem capabilities. Since SyncSuite is based on Java, it is portable to most operating system platforms. SyncSuite also enables users to manage their wireless usage through an integrated communications suite that includes email, SMS, fax, and FTP. SyncSuite uses SyncML protocol--the common language for synchronizing all devices and applications over any network--for data exchange. SyncML is based on Extensible Markup Language (XML). With SyncML, networked information can be synchronized with any mobile device, and mobile information can be synchronized with any networked applications. SyncSuite maintains contacts, calendars, and to do lists and syncs them directly to digital phones and PDAs via serial cable, infrared, or Bluetooth. SyncSuite's messaging center provides email, fax, and instant messaging via SMS. SyncSuite updates the information in a user's desktop, laptop, mobile phone, and PDA by comparing files between the devices and synchronizing the data. |
