KC Technology, Inc. is minimizing the cost and power consumption of Bluetooth with its uPAX controller. The uPAX Bluetooth Controller KC2680 is a low power protocol processor for Bluetooth applications. At its core, the uPAX uses an 8-bit CPU, while most of the other Bluetooth chipsets are using 32-bit processors, which are more expensive and consume more power. Bluetooth is an open specification for short distance wireless communications.

The uPax has integrated RAM and ROM and supports the entire Bluetooth stack up to the HCI interface. uPAX also supports multiple third-party radios through its Versatile Radio Extension (VRX) technology. It even provides RS232 and USB interfaces for communication to system host processors.

Designed to provide all key elements of a Bluetooth system, KC Technology's system-on-chip (SoC) is customizable to fit the existing infrastructure of equipment manufacturers' products. uPAX provides the communications for KC Technologies KC8101, a compact Bluetooth module.

Both the uPAX Bluetooth controller and the KC8101 Bluetooth module are currently available.
