Yipee, Inc. has created new TCP/IP Internet enabling firmware (IEF) for Microchip's high-performance flash microcontrollers, such as the PIC16F877.

Microchip is offering a variety of Internet connectivity protocols that can be implemented on PICmicro devices. Yipee NodEm technology provides network support for the Microchip 8-bit microcontrollers.

With NodEm, any embedded primitive device can become a network node, according to Yipee. This is accomplished without a real-time operating system, a gateway, or a special networking chip.

Using Yipee technology, Microchip's PICmicro microcontrollers can directly connect to the Internet. The Yipee product includes a TCP/IP stack that has several configurations.

Yipee's full suite of development tools includes a NodEm Development Kit with development board, the Yipee Cricket, an Internet-enabled hardware module. The module has a standard 28 or 40-pin connector and Mediana, an application development software tool that allows users to develop Internet-enabled embedded applications.

Developers who want to evaluate Yipee's NodEm technology can do so using the PICDEM.net Internet/Ethernet demonstration board available from Microchip.
