The WebDT 380 from DT Research is a second-generation wireless personal access device and a production-ready package for OEMs. Based on National's Geode WebPAD reference design and Geode GX1 processor, the device began as a joint collaboration between National Semiconductor and DT Research, and ended as a sleek Web tablet.

The WebDT 380 is based on the WebPAD Metro concept product introduced at Comdex Fall 2000. This commercial model features all the functionality boasted by the original prototype along with user-configurable flexibility to operate a Web access device, a thin client, or a desktop companion.

Running Microsoft Windows CE 3.0 operating system and wireless LAN/WAN support standards, the WebDT 380 can be used by both the corporate and vertical end-user in various markets, including education, medicine, home networking, and control.

The WebDT 380 features a complete set of plug-ins, including Java Virtual Machine, Windows Media Player, Flash Player, PDF viewer, and MS Office suite viewer. It integrates a complete set of thin client functions such as RDP, ICA protocols, terminal emulations, and VPN support for the client/server-computing environment.

The WebDT 380 also includes personal information management and desktop synchronization software to offer full-wireless desktop companion functionality. It supports not only wireless LAN connectivity but also extends its wireless usability beyond the LAN to direct wireless WAN access. The unit features an 8.4" TFT LCD display and weighs in at less than two and one-half pounds in an elegant and compact package.

The WebDT 380 is currently shipping. For more information, please visit DT Research's Website at www.dtresearch.com.
