OpenPath Products is releasing DataBow Professional, a wireless rapid application authoring tool and server that enables non-programmers to produce wireless applications. Databow is a development tool that produces software applications for wireless devices through:

  • Wireless Messaging (2-Way SMS)
  • Wireless Web (WAP)
  • Palm Pilots
  • 2-Way Pagers

DataBow provides wireless services that can be accessed by a variety of devices, including mobile handsets with 2-way text messaging, email phones and pagers, WAP browsers, and Palm devices. DataBow includes a graphical authoring environment that allows non-programmers to create applications with interactive services.

DataBow's drag and drop graphical authoring tool allows users to create customized applications. Nodes representing software components are graphically connected to enable tasks such as sending SMS messages or querying a database. Databow also provides an API to create and customize nodes.

DataBow:

  • Integrates with existing SOAP services, SQL databases, IMAP servers, HTTP servers, Telnet servers, shell scripts, etc.
  • Includes Web server and database.
  • Includes Web-based SMS, WAP, and Palm for testing applications.
  • Provides a tutorial and 8 sample applications, demonstrating access to email, stock quotes, etc.
  • Operates on Windows, Linux, Solaris, and other Java compatible operating systems.
  • Supports WAP browsers, SMS/email phones and pagers, Palm devices, and standard HTML browsers.

DataBow Professional has been developed to meet the needs of enterprises with 50 or less concurrent users. DataBow Enterprise and Carrier editions support larger numbers of users and will be available this summer.
