Red Hat is shipping a new version of GNUPro, the compiler/debugger toolset for Red Hat open source development. The new platform consolidates UNIX and Linux platform development and can also be employed by developers using Embedded Linux and eCos.

Enterprise developers can develop application code on legacy UNIX platforms based on GNU/Linux tools. IT organizations can then easily move these applications to Linux with the migration and cross-platform capabilities of GNUPro.

The tools support desktop development environments, including Red Hat Linux, Solaris, and HP-UX, Windows NT and AIX. Embedded developers can utilize high-level calls in the C language through GNUPro's embedded ANSI C compliant libraries.

Different versions of GNUPro Toolkit can now be used to easily and quickly migrate code from a native development environment to an embedded one, or from one embedded target to another. GNUPro supports embedded architectures, including PowerPC, Hitachi-SH, ARM and StrongARM, Xscale, and embedded Pentium. Embedded developers can take advantage of extensive C++ language support, including improved exception handling and extensive template support.

Sold as an annual subscription, upgrades are free for one year as they become available. Red Hat maintains Web-based support and patch-level bug fixes. The GNUPro Toolkit and support are available for Linux hosts at $9995/year for small development teams and annual subscriptions are available starting at $1999/seat, 10 seat minimum. Additional host platforms (non-Linux) are available at $12,500 for small teams and $2500/seat for larger groups.
