Novell, Inc., is jumping into the appliance server market. Novell joins the growing list of companies including Microsoft, Lineo, IBM, Wind River, and QNX with server appliance offerings. The NetDevice NAS is Novell's first appliance framework for their NetDevice family of specialized server appliances. The NetDevice family offers software framework tools to speed the development of server appliances. The Novell NetDevice NAS, a network attached storage (NAS) appliance, delivers the entire Novell portfolio of file system technologies, with security, manageability, and reliability features. These appliances servers are targeting corporate customers' eBusiness applications.

Built on Novell NetWare technology, the Novell NetDevice NAS is designed to help companies store, find, and retrieve data. Novell NetDevice NAS supports the Novell NDS eDirectory environment, Windows, UNIX, Linux, and Web-based clients. NetDevice NAS servers provide scalable storage for networks in an attempt to reduce storage management costs.

Novell will work with key hardware partners such as Compaq, Dell, IBM, HP, and other vendors to certify systems running the NetDevice NAS. To see up-to-date information on certified systems for the Novell NetDevice NAS, go to http://developer.novell.com/nss and search for Novell NetDevice NAS-certified hardware.

The Novell NetDevice NAS storage appliance will be available at the end of August through Novell authorized resellers and solution providers or at http://shop.novell.com for prices starting at $1,799.
