Oki Semiconductor introduced its Bluetooth solution, which includes a Bluetooth module that integrates Oki's Bluetooth chipset, Bluetooth software, an antenna, and a connector. In addition, Oki Semiconductor offers a comprehensive systems development kit (SDK) and a Bluetooth protocol stack. Oki Semiconductor's Bluetooth solution meets version 1.1 of the Bluetooth standard for short-range wireless applications. The Bluetooth solution can be integrated into such applications as wireless headsets, telematic systems, PCs, and peripherals.

Oki Semiconductor is offering both a Bluetooth chipset and module. The 18 x 38 mm module integrates Oki Semiconductor's RF and baseband chipset, Bluetooth software, an antenna, and a 30-pin connector. Both the RF transceiver and baseband processor that make up the chipset are designed with the same CMOS process. The Oki Bluetooth RF transceiver (ML7050LA) is designed to operate in the 2.4 GHz frequency band. The ML7050LA is packaged in a 48-pin ball grid array package and requires 7-millimeters of board space. The baseband controller (ML70511LA) incorporates the ARM7TDMI as the CPU core.

The Bluetooth SDK comes with a tool for testing and configuring the software stacks (software & firmware) and interface protocols.

Oki Semiconductor's Bluetooth chipset is available and is priced at under $15 in volume quantities. The module will be available in September and is under $35 in volume quantities. The software development kit is available immediately for $2850 per kit.
