Imerge Spins a New Audio ServerBy Michael Foley Imerge, Ltd., is introducing its new S1000 SoundServer. The S1000 is a single-room version of its multi-room hard drive-based stereo system. The S1000 lets users organize music collections to make it easier to find music tracks. The S1000 comes with a 40 or 80 Gbyte hard drive to record and access over 1,400 hours of music in MP3 format and play it back through conventional music systems. S1000 stores uncompressed audio tracks or compresses the tracks into MP3 files. It comes with a CD loader tray and provides connectivity through RS232, USB, 56K modem, and 10/100 Ethernet. It contains composite and S/PDIF video outputs for users to interact with the server through their TV. The S1000 comes with a new TV interface for recording or playing music. Music tracks can be stored and played back by album, track, artist, or genre, and the S1000 automatically connects to the Internet to give users track listing information. The SoundServer can automatically select music from a user's entire collection to fit a particular mood or style. Imerge is also delivering XiVA-Net with the SoundServer for searching and retrieval of music-related news and information about favorite artists or music types. XiVA-Net is an Internet-based entertainment service from Imerge. It is dedicated to delivering entertainment to the new generation of Internet-enabled information appliances. Link: |
