Intermec Technologies Corp. is adding more memory to its PocketPC device to make it more functional for business applications. The 700 Series, a rugged handheld computer introduced earlier this year, is now available with 64 MB of RAM.

The 64 MB of RAM (approximately 45-48 MB available for customer use) provides additional space for enterprise applications, local storage, and powerful tools, such as the Microsoft SQL Server for Windows CE Edition. The 700 series is based on Microsoft's PocketPC operating system. It provides wireless connectivity through its integrated 802.11b wireless LAN standard.

The 700 Series' rugged design is targeted for use in demanding environments, such as utilities or service and delivery, where reliability is critical. The 700 Series includes support for wide area networking and Ethernet connectivity, and it is ANSI rated IP54 for environmental durability. An IrDA port and optional external modem provide further options for data transfer, and its programmable touch screen, alphanumeric keypad, and integrated bar code scanner provide flexible data input options and electronic signature capture capability.
