Casio's CASSIOPEIA BE-300 is winning the support of software developers. The platform, only a few months after its release, is running a number of mobile computing applications such as handwriting recognition, audio, video, and data synchronization.

For example, the Decuma character recognizer, which allows users to write characters naturally without being limited to use an artificial single-stroke alphabet, is now working on the platform. The software supports both upper and lower case letters, numbers, and other symbols. In addition, there is a mode that allows user to define their own characters or notation for characters. Decuma also supports handwriting recognition for Chinese and Japanese character sets.

Also ported to the platform is ActiveSky's MediaPlayer. This software offers video, animation, and media playback. ActiveSky accepts the delivery of interactive media to the BE300 through 2.5G and 3G networks when available. Built into ActiveSky's MediaPlayer is support for both still images and streaming video.

Audible.com has ported AudibleReady. AudibleReady allows for playback of recorded spoken audio. Audible offers mobile users a variety of best selling and classic audio books through their Website.

Packet Video has enabled the BE300 with one-and-two-way video with audio, animation, and graphics. These can be compressed and sent over wireless networks to work on the device. PacketVideo's audio/video playback software, PVPlayer, will be bundled with Casio's new CASSIOPEIA Pocket Manager BE-300 to provide mobile users with built in multimedia.

Pumatech has bundled a BE300 specific version of Intellisync Lite. Intellisync provides synchronization of calendar, e-mail, contacts, notes, and to-do items between the BE-300 and Microsoft Outlook. Casio has developed an optimized version of Intellisync Lite specifically for the CASSIOPEIA BE-300 using Pumatech's Intellisync Software Developer Kit.

The CASSIOPEIA BE-300 includes a 32K color touch screen display, USB/Serial Connector, and CompactFlash card slot (Type II). It also supports an optional PC Card accessory. Through the PC Card expansion module, wireless LAN cards, wireless modems, and other functionality can be added.

The BE300 Pocket Manager features an open development framework based on Windows CE 3.0 operating system, which gives software developers an easy way to port over popular business applications.
