Panasonic's most recent entry into the handheld computer realm is the Toughbook 01 Handheld terminal, a compact, durable, expandable hardware tool designed for today's enterprises and the stringent demands of vertical industries.

The Toughbook 01 represents the sixth generation of ruggedized portable computing hardware from Panasonic.

"The Toughbook 01 is one of the first ruggedized handheld devices today that offers either keyboard or touchscreen data entry. Our research indicates that this flexibility will greatly enhance the user's ability to continue to work in environments or situations where being limited to one type of inputting ultimately hinders productivity," said Rance Poehler, President of Panasonic Computer Solutions Company.

Panasonic's Toughbook 01 was designed to comply with MIL STD 810 E environmental test procedures for drop shock and moisture resistance. Additionally, port and connector covers are sealed and the case is scratch resistant.

In addition to integrated, internally powered support for the most popular nationwide wide area wireless communications solutions, including DataTAC (Motient Network), Mobitex (Cingular Interactive), and CDPD, Panasonic's Toughbook 01 is GPS ready for maximum mobility, ease-of-operation, and user productivity in geographic data collection and mapping applications.

The Windows CE 3.0-based Toughbook 01 runs on a 206 MHz Intel Strong ARM SA-1110 Microprocessor. Users should appreciate the 32 MB SDRAM and 32 MB Flash EPROM, as well as the 3.5-inch 240 x 320 daylight-readable TFT Active Matrix Color LCD.The estimated street price of this device is $999.00.
