Ericsson's two new wireless communication modules enable machine-to-machine (M2M) communication. The CDMA module CM42 for CDMA2000 1X networks and the MM-15 for Aeris.net Microburst data networks can be used for a variety of applications, including telephony, telemetry, intelligent transport, automotive systems, and other business and entertainment services.

The new CM42 CDMA module is ready for CDMA2000 1X, enabling always-on, always-connected packet data connections and interconnectivity with Global Positioning Service (GPS) functionality, thus reducing integration efforts for M2M applications. The CM42 also includes 3 watt AMPS out-put power, which ensures coverage in remote areas and is often demanded for in-vehicle and fleet/asset tracking applications.

The MM-15 is a module designed for integration into original equipment manufacturer (OEM) wireless M2M applications used with Aeris.net's Microburst data network.

Service providers and applications developers of vertical applications can integrate Ericsson's modules into products to enable rapid market introduction and interoperability with existing networks.

Prototypes of the CDMA module will be available for testing this fall, with commercial volumes available in 1Q 2001. The MM-15 module is currently in beta trials and will also be commercially available 1Q 2001.

The introduction of the CDMA module to Ericsson's product portfolio means that Ericsson covers all major standards worldwide including GSM, TDMA, and CDMA.
