XcelleNet's Afaria Document Manager for Handhelds provides mobile workers using devices based on the Palm or Windows CE/Pocket PC platforms with access to critical business documents and data, both on and offline.

Similar to Afaria's Document Manager designed for Win 32 laptops, the Handheld version offers subscription and publishing capabilities that translate documents into formats that can be viewed and subscribed to directly from a handheld device. Information is received quickly and transparently over a variety of wired or wireless connectivity options. Once a document has been received, the user simply clicks on that document to launch the appropriate viewer.

For Windows CE devices, Document Manager automatically converts Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, HTML, and plain text files into formats that can be read by the Pocket Word, Pocket Excel, and Pocket Explorer applications on the device.

For Palm OS devices, documents are converted and accessible through technology provided by DataViz, developers of Documents To Go. As distributed by Afaria, this functionality allows for the viewing of Microsoft Word, Excel, and text files on Palm OS devices. Once users have received the documents, they simply tap on the document title, and the appropriate viewer will automatically launch the file for viewing.

XcelleNet's Afaria enables enterprises to extend essential systems' management capabilities out to a comprehensive array of mobile devices including laptops, PDAs, smart phones, and interactive pagers. Afaria overcomes the challenges of the mobile environment and makes end users more productive with tools for deploying and maintaining software applications and business documents, synchronizing content and data, tracking hardware and software device assets, backing up critical content and data, and maintaining desired configuration settings.
