Snap to Better Network Storage

Snap Appliances unveiled the Snap Server 2200, a two-drive desktop NAS appliance optimized for network file serving and backup. The Snap Server 2200 offers 160GB of RAID protected network storage for less than $10 per gigabyte, a fraction of the traditional general-purpose file server cost.

Like all Snap Server products, the Snap Server 2200 provides simple installation, typically in five minutes or less, and easy management features through the Snap Web-based GUI. The Snap Server 2200's compact desktop form factor makes it stable on desks or tables and easy to transport. In addition the Snap Server 2200 features a Kensington Security Slot to enable customers to lock down the server for enhanced physical data security.

The Snap Server 2200 provides cross-platform file sharing in mixed Windows, NetWare, UNIX Linux, and Macintosh environments. The disks are easily configured to provide RAID 1 (mirroring) or RAID 0 (striping, no parity) data protection. The dual drives can also be viewed as two separate disks with separate volumes using JBOD.

In many companies, the majority of data resides on workstations or laptops, and in a lot of cases, this data is never backed up. As with the entire Snap Server family, the Snap Server 2200 is bundled with DataKeeper Snap Edition software. This software package, when loaded on Windows-based clients, will automatically backup desktop files to a Snap Server on the network.

Another key development that enhances the network backup capabilities of the Snap Server is the new Server-to-Server Synchronization SnapExtension software. This optional software package, which utilizes Java technology on the Snap Server, copies content directly from one or more primary Snap Servers to one or more back up Snap Servers on a network. This SnapExtension application allows users to schedule backups without slowing network performance, and in the case of a primary server failure, users can quickly and easily retrieve necessary data.

The Snap Server 2200 is available immediately at an MSRP of $1,499. The Snap Server product family is available through value-added resellers (VARs), leading catalog resellers, or by visiting the online Snap Store.
