Echelon Previews Newest i.LON ProductsBy During a press conference held at the LonWorld 2001 Conference and Exhibition, Echelon Corporation previewed the newest members of its i.LON IP connectivity products for LonWorks networks. The i.LON 10 and i.LON 100 will join Echelon's i.LON 1000 Internet Server to provide a low cost to high performance range of IP products for connecting everyday devices to the Internet. "Gaining access to the information 'locked up' in control devices is the key to reaching the next level of productivity improvements in real-time inventory and manufacturing systems, energy monitoring and management systems, and service and help desk systems. Unlike simple device servers that add the cost and complexity of a redundant IP connection to every device, a single i.LON server enables an entire network of smart devices -- from one device to tens of thousands of devices -- to become Internet-connected. The result, we believe, is the most cost-effective and scalable set of products in the world for providing Internet connectivity to everyday devices," said Bea Yormark, Echelon's president and CEO. The i.LON 10 is designed to provide an extremely low-cost entry point for Internet device connectivity. Combined with remote maintenance, monitoring, and control applications built on Echelon's LNS network operating system, the i.LON 10 will enable businesses to remotely manage and interact with devices in factories and commercial buildings and provide a platform for service providers to connect to everyday devices in homes and businesses. The i.LON 100 is targeted at small to mid-size commercial and industrial networks, such as those typically used at schools, convenience stores, banks, water treatment plants, pumping stations, and factories. Its built-in Web server, energy meter inputs, high-capacity relay outputs, and software for scheduling, data logging, and alarming make the i.LON 100 an ideal tool for locally controlling and remotely supervising facilities of all kinds. Pre-release units are expected in the first half of 2002. Link: |
