Marimba and Peregrine Systems forged an agreement to embed Marimba's technology for "version-less" upgrades in Xanadu, the first turnkey IT asset management appliance for small and midsize businesses.

Marimba's Embedded Management product family enables companies to improve the quality of service to their customers and channel partners by transparently delivering and managing upgrades, transforming software applications from static products into dynamic services.

"By embedding Marimba technology in Xanadu, we've removed one of the traditional friction points within the software distribution process," said Fred Luddy, Peregrine's chief technology officer. "Instead of tasking the IT staff with the time-consuming work of software updates, we are using Marimba's technology to update our Xanadu software seamlessly -- without human intervention -- in essence making it 'version-less.' That means better support, as well as substantial time-and-cost savings to our channel partners and customers."

Peregrine's Xanadu represents an innovation in IT asset management appliances as it offers self-installing, self-detecting, maintenance-free asset discovery, asset tracking, and incident reporting capabilities. Xanadu continuously identifies, monitors, and manages an organization's entire IT network, providing easily understandable, comprehensive views of an organization's vital assets -- network, desktop, and mobile devices -- 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In addition, Xanadu gives employees Web-based self-service access to report incidents.

It is currently available as a service delivery platform through Peregrine's OEM alliance partners and other IT service providers.
