CTS Corporation announced a new, miniature receive filter for North American PCS (personal communication system) CDMA (code division multiple access) applications.

Incorporating CTS' ceramic monoblock technology, the new model CER0059A filter measures 7mm x 5.5mm x 3.8mm, making it suitable for the most space-limited designs. It is targeted for HDR (high data rate) capable, wireless modem terminals, including laptops, PDAs (personal digital assistants), and handsets utilizing CDMA 1x technology, all of which are expected to ship in early 2002.

HDR capability is central to 2.5G and 3G CDMA networks that promise to deliver mobile, real-time multimedia services. Devices such as laptops and PDAs utilizing this technology will increasingly be wireless enabled. An ever-growing number of these devices may be equipped with modems or have integrated data communications functionality. The variety of HDR devices available runs the gamut from telemetry units to point-of-sale terminals used in all facets of communication solutions.

"3G technology with mobile high-speed data accessibility coupled with Internet protocol-based services is expected to revolutionize the wireless industry and be a valuable growth area for wireless communications," said Jerry Gabbard, vice president and general manager, CTS Wireless Components. "Our ceramic monoblock technology provides the optimal size, performance, and cost solution that no other filter supplier can offer at this time," Gabbard concluded.

Samples and evaluation boards are available now.
