Esmertec Slims Cost of Jbed PackageBy Susan Hospod Esmertec announced the immediate availability of a 99$ entry version of its Jbed Micro Edition CLDC for Palm OS, including Jbed Profile for MID, over its Website. This full development package includes the Jbed IDE and the Jbed Virtual Machine as well as the CLDC (Connected Limited Device Configuration) and the MIDP (Mobile Information Device Profile) classes. Furthermore, in order to support legacy projects, esmertec's version of kJava is part of the package, too. The 99$ entry version is intended for non-commercial use only. Developers can download the package from the company's Website and begin developing applications and services for the Palm OS. ``By offering Jbed Micro Edition CLDC for Palm OS on our Website, we feel that this is the best way to demonstrate the power of our Jbed product line,'' says Peter Eichenberger, Senior VP Sales & Marketing of esmertec. ``We will offer the package at a reduced price of US$ 99.00. Support will be guaranteed by esmertec's jbed-micro-edition-cldc user group and mailing list.'' Jbed Micro Edition CLDC, esmertec's drop-in replacement product for Java 2 Micro Edition CLDC, is a Java Virtual Machine (JVM) optimized for small mobile devices like mobile phones and PDAs and provides, together with Jbed Profile for MID, a complete J2ME application runtime environment. Contrary to the reference implementation, esmertec's product is not only small but also fast due to its TBCC (target bytecode compilation) technology. Link: |
