Valence's HomePlug Chip Networks

Valence Semiconductor's new VS6801 HomePlug is a single-chip, fully HomePlug-based front-end interface available in pure CMOS for high-speed data networking over the powerline medium.

The VS6801 will not only offer HomePlug chipset vendors a highly integrated and lower cost alternative, but will provide the industry with a clear path to single-chip HomePlug implementations.

The first public demonstration of the VS6801 HomePlug front-end interface will occur in the HomePlug Pavilion at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show, Las Vegas Convention Center, South Hall, Booth No. 14900, Jan. 8-11, 2002.

The HomePlug specification offers Quality of Service (QoS) and bandwidth comparable to Ethernet LAN technology and allows broadband services such as voice, video, and data to be deployed over standard electrical wiring.

The HomePlug network supports data speeds up to 13.75 Mbits/second and can turn any power socket into a broadband port without the RF range or interference issues common with other home networking technologies.

The VS6801 is a high-performance device whose design lowers system costs by substantially reducing the need for external components. The chip incorporates data conversion components (analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters), signal conditioning filters, and line drivers to create a fully integrated 64-pin LQFP single-chip package.

Providing 20dB more sensitivity than required by the HomePlug specification, the VS6801 delivers expanded reach to support any size residence or small office. Designed for glueless integration, the VS6801 supports industry-leading digital CMOS baseband/PHY chips to provide a complete and cost-effective, high-speed networking solution for fixed communications devices.
