Asita Technologies added new functionality to its Asita LineSpeed 5 (LS5), an integrated security appliance. The LS5 is a single security device that combines IPSec VPN and a robust firewall. Now the LS5 offers self-configuring activation and proactive performance monitoring and management capabilities, making it even easier to install and maintain.

The LS5 allows branch offices, telecommuters, and SOHOs to securely access critical corporate resources by utilizing the Internet or other public network services as a Wide Area Network (WAN) backbone. The LS5 interoperates with the Asita Security Operating System (Asita SOS), offers 100 VPN tunnels, and transmits secure data at 5 Mbps over the public infrastructure using 3DES-CBC, the strongest encryption available in IPSec standard. The LS5 firewall engine provides a rich set of security features including anti-spoofing, denial of service protection and network address translation (NAT).

Proactive Performance Monitoring and Management within the LS5 incorporates a set of utilities that allows the appliance to be monitored and managed locally or remotely. Results are displayed in real-time using a standard web browser, saving support time and removing the need for site visits. All events are time stamped using the network synchronized, real-time clock and can be forwarded to external systems using a number of techniques including SNMP, SYSLOG, and email.

The self-configurable activation provides true plug-and-play network provisioning. When the LS5 is connected to the access line and a power outlet, it contacts the activation server at the central site, which delivers the required software, configurations, and user-interface. The LS5 stores multiple configurations, enabling full rollback and service recovery capabilities. Asita also provides a suite of Web-based installation wizards that reduce installation complexity and risk. Entirely Web-based and running on the LS5, the wizards can be accessed from any standard Web browser with no need to install software on the PC.

The Asita LS5 is available immediately through the VAR channel at a suggested retail price of $1,295.
