SMC Networks launched its EliteConnect WLAN Security System. EliteConnect is a security and management solution that incorporates VPN technology to solve security vulnerabilities of WEP and provides network administrators with virtual private network tunneling, user authentication and rights management.

EliteConnect is a package that contains the WLAN Secure Server (SMC2504W) and WLAN Access Manager (SMC2502W). It is a network control system that integrates with part or all of existing wireless networks. The EliteConnect WLAN Security System is interoperable with 802.11 standards, Bluetooth and wired Ethernet. The WLAN Security System also uses VPN to secure network traffic from the wireless client to the existing LAN infrastructure. VPN features support PPTP/L2TP/IPSec protocols to provide secure wireless communications.

SMC's WLAN Security System will be available at the end of March. Pricing for the systems is $5,999 for the Secure Server, and $2,999 for the Access Manager.
