Viewsonic Furnishes a Window to the Net

ViewSonic Corporation is previewing a wireless monitor that acts as a wireless Internet terminal. The airpanel 100 provides wireless access to e-mail, web browsing and server based enterprise applications over a wireless LAN or WAN connection. The airpanel 100 is targeting business applications that need simple network based network connections.

The airpanel 100 includes a SVGA TFT 10-inch touch screen with 800 x 600 resolution. The monitor works in both portrait or landscape orientations and offers additional expandability including a USB port and two expansion slots for optional wireless LAN and/or WAN access cards. In addition, it comes equipped with a built-in full duplex microphone and speaker, and a jack for headphones and microphone.

It weighs in at 2.5 pounds. The device runs on Microsoft Windows CE .NET operating system and is powered by a 206MHz Intel SA-1110 CPU. It comes with 32MB of Intel StrataFlash and 128MB of memory. Software applications include Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5, Windows Media Player, and JAVA Virtual Machine.

The airpanel 100 will be available beginning May 2002. United States estimated prices start at $1195.
