2Wire Branches Into The OfficeBy Michael Foley 2Wire, Inc. enhanced its broadband networking product line with the introduction of the 2Wire OfficePortal broadband router. The OfficePortal is a beefed up router that contains gateway functionality to provide networking adminstration and security. The new 2Wire OfficePortal is an integrated business networking solution, incorporating router, firewall, and value-added software. The OfficePortal broadband router has flexible networking options, including a PCMCIA slot for Wi-Fi (802.11b) wireless networking, an optional ADSL modem, a standard 4-port 10/100 Ethernet switch, and an optional HPNA interface for phoneline networking. OfficePortal is upgradeable, with software updates that can be downloaded as they become available. The firewall includes two levels of security. Network Address Translation (NAT)/Port Address Translation (PAT) security and Stateful Packet Inspection. OfficePortal is managed via a browser-based user interface.
