South San Francisco, Ca. - SWSoft Inc. introduced this week its Magnum-SC line of server consolidation appliances based on its Virtuozzo OS-virtualization technology and Intel-based servers from IBM and Dell.

The Magnum-SC is designed to consolidate the workload of 10 to 200 physical servers onto a single server iAppliance to reduce overall system administration costs by at least 70 percent through the use of the company's dynamic partitioning technology. It allows the OS container, or "virtual environment" (VE), in which both an OS and application run, to smoothly grow from a fraction of an Intel processor up to 8 processors - with zero system downtime.

Also available is Virtuozzo version 2.0.2, which has been enhanced through the addition of the "vzmc" GUI that allows management of hundreds of Linux Virtual Environments (VEs) across multiple servers. Using a unique "vzmigrate" feature, entire OS containers can be moved to another server for scheduled hardware maintenance or system upgrades - with only a few seconds of planned downtime.

Designed as a drop-in server consolidation appliance that requires no changes to existing software or IT processes, Magnum-SC can be deum-SC appliances can be deployed by a single operator in less than half a day.

The Virtuozzo 2.0.2-powered Linux-based Magnum-SC server consolidation appliance is available in three configurations: the $10,000 M30 which consolidates up to 50 servers (10 suggested) and includes an IBM xSeries 330 or a Dell PowerEdge(tm) 1650; the $25,000 M130, which consolidates up to 200 servers (25 suggested) and includes a Dell PowerEdge(tm) 6650 or an IBM xSeries 360; and the M230, which consolidates up to 500 servers (50 suggested) and includes a Dell PowerEdge(tm) 8450 or an IBM xSeries 370.

According to Craig Oda, SWSoft's vice president of business development, future plans for the Virtuozzo and Magnum-SC consolidation software will include support for 64GB of memory, 16 CPUs, and IA64, as well as Windows versions in the second half of 2003.
