WatchGuard Technologies, Inc. is beefing up its new security appliances to compete on the enterprise level. The Firebox Vclass line of appliances has enhanced performance features to handle higher volume network traffic. The Firebox Vclass includes the V100, V80, V60 and V10 appliances.

The Firebox V100 is a one-rack unit appliance offering two 1-Gigabit Ethernet and two high availability (HA) ports. Networking features include multi-tenant capability, VLAN, Quality of Service and server load balancing. The V100 also features 600 Megabit firewall throughput, 300 Megabits per second 3DES VPN performance and up to 20,000 IPSec VPN tunnels.

The Firebox V80 has four 10/100 Fast Ethernet ports and two HA ports with 270 Megabit firewall and 150 Megabit 3DES VPN throughput. The Firebox V80 supports up to 8,000 IPSec tunnels.

The Firebox V60 delivers 200 Megabit, wire-speed firewall performance, 100 Megabit 3DES VPN throughput and supports up to 400 IPSec tunnels.

The V10 features 75 Megabit firewall, 20 Megabit 3DES VPN throughput and support for 10 IPSec tunnels. The Firebox V10 can be licensed to support 10 or 25 users.

The new appliances include Vcontroller, a Java-based software application for managing and configuring site-to-site and site-to-remote VPN locations. An integrated, intuitive icon and wizard-based graphical user interface (GUI) manages firewall and VPN policies.

The Vclass products will be available in the second quarter of 2002.
