Wind River Integrates Device ManagementBy Bernard Cole ALAMEDA, CA --- Continuing to focus its attention on the nexus between connected embedded devices and small footprint netcentric iAppliances, Wind River Systems, Inc. has just unveled its WindManage device management product suite. According to David Fraser, group vice president and general manager of Wind Rivers network business unit, device management has emerged as a crucial requirement in the netcentric communications and computing market, from devices, from carrier class switches and connected consumer electronics to industrial control and automotive telematics devices. Because the range of products requiring device management is extremely diverse, with different requirements existing within each market segment, he said, WindManage was designed to be as open as possible and support industry standard protocols and mechanisms. In addition to an open API to allow developers to to create custom interfaces for devices using the company's VxWorksAE and BSD/OS operating systems, WindManage integrates the Envoy simple network management protocol (SNMP) implementation and its RapidControl device management product lines into a single, unified device management framework. It also supports Wind River's Tornado integrated development environment. WindManage is currently available for beta customers. The WindManage SNMP agent, Web Server and Command Line Interface will be available starting in July. For more information, go to http://www.windriver.com. |
