CE Based PSC Falcon Handheld Data Collector

PSC, an innovator of integrated data-collection solutions and services for the retail supply chain has released the Falcon 4210, a compact, rugged handheld wireless data collection PDA running Windows CE.

The Falcon 4210 is portable data collector designed to increase the speed and efficiency of in-store data management, logistics, and inventory control in applications for the retail sector. Designed specifically to handle the demanding data collection tasks for retail environments, the Falcon 4210 combines the Windows CE operating system with integrated application enviropnment for RF data communications, bar code scanning and optional magnetic stripe card processing into a compact, rugged handheld device.

The device comes with a 1/4 VGA touch-screen display and a built-in 16-key numeric keypad ensure data can be entered easily in any environment. The Falcon 4210 has also been tested to withstand the harshest treatment, including repeated 4 foot drops to concrete.

Available in batch and wireless models, the Falcon 4210 has a PC card slot for the easy addition of expanded memory, modems and RF communications. For both local and remote data collection applications, the batch portable is ideal. Using a docking cradle or direct connect cable, collected data can be sent to a host computer when time permits. An optional integrated modem kit with a batch model supports dial-up communications at speeds of up to 56Kbps.

Wireless connectivity of the RF portable is ideal when real-time information is critical. The Falcon 4210 works with 802.11b radios, including Cisco/Aironet and Lucent (Agere) Orinoco, enabling interoperability with WiFi-compliant wireless networks.

PSC ships the Falcon with application development tools, including RFBuilder, RFSDK and PowerNet terminal emulation solution for VT100, VT220, HP700/92, IBM 3270 and IBM 5250. It also includes third-party application development tools for both batch and RF environments.

The Falcon 4210's list price starts at $1,350 US for a batch unit with laser scanner and is currently available.
