HP and Raytheon to Ruggedize iPAQ for Military

HP has provided iPAQ Pocket PC technology and intellectual property to Raytheon Company as part of technology licensing agreement with Compaq Computers.

Raytheon plans to manufacture and market the Agama, a handheld computer based on a ruggedized iPAQ. The Agama has been repackage to withstand extreme environmental conditions required for military and certain industrial use.

Raytheon's Agama is an extended environment, commercial-off-the-shelf rugged computer product customized for global military, heavy industrial use.

The device is rearchitected to withstand adverse environmental conditions such as extreme temperatures, severe shock, vibration and humidity. Agama will be available this summer.

The Raytheon's Agama handheld computer will join its existing portfolio of rugged computer products, which includes the Chameleon and Iguana notebooks as well as the Gecko flat panel display.
