AKRON, Ohio --- Accelent Systems Inc.'s new Schema Development Suite streamlines the traditional software development process by providing the code libraries, tools and hardware platforms to quickly and easily configure customized system software images for a specific small footprint iappliance devices.

The Schema Development Suite is comprised of three distinct pieces that work in conjunction to speed the development for a number of small footprint iappliance systems such as PDA's, web pads and smart phones: DeviceWare, CoreLinx and a set of hardware reference platforms.

DeviceWare contains an extensive library of source code (hundreds of device drivers and utilities), which when coupled with the platform specific configuration code, is used to generate any number of unique system software images based on specific hardware designs. This is accomplished by abstracting the hardware dependencies within the DeviceWare software components to a configuration layer.

CoreLinx is a powerful customization and image building tool that provides the technologies to produce a unique software image for a specific embedded device. In conjunction with Microsoft's Platform Builder, it is used to configure, customize and build the executable images from DeviceWare.

In addition to the code libraries and tools needed to build a custom embedded device, a number of hardware platforms are available for use as reference platform to jumpstart the hardware design process.

By having abstracted the hardware dependencies from the DeviceWare modules, the Schema Development Suite is operating system and processor independent within the ARM family of processors. While currently supporting the following processors and operating systems, others will be released in the near future.

Processors supported include the Intel PXA, StrongARM and ARM. Operating systems supported include Windows CE.NET and 3.0, Pocket PC / Pocket PC 2002, Smartphone 2002 and a number of small footprint and embedded Linux OSes.
