Toshiba RISC Companion Adds More I/O to iappliancesBy Bernard Cole SAN JOSE, Ca. --- Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. (TAEC) has a new companion device for its RISC processors that integrates most common I/O interfaces into a form that allows incorporation into a wide range of next generation of net-centric digital information iappliance devices. The TC86C001FG integrates an AT Attachment Packet Interface (ATAPI) controller, Universal Serial Bus (USB) device /host controllers, an Inter-IC (I2C) bus controller and a Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) controller into a single general purpose I/O chip. Toshiba has also developed an evaluation board to shorten development time. Sampling starts in September. In addition the devices also supports many industry-standard operating systems along with the necessary drivers for all supported peripherals, Packaged in a 144-pin LQFP (supports no-lead type), samples of TC86C001FG are currently available at $15 in 100-piece quantities. Mass production is scheduled to begin in first quarter 2003 at an initial run rate of 100,000 chips per month. For more information, go to chips.toshiba.com |
