Kontron Mobile Computing, Inc. released in new ReVolution line of rugged, Windows based Tablet PC designed for field service personnel. The Tablet PC has a unique 180-degree display hinge to convert from a notebook to touch-screen tablet and back again. The ReVolution also features wireless communications capabilities and rugged construction.

ReVolution is designed with full magnesium construction and is tested to U.S. military and NEMA standards for resistance to shock, vibration, water, temperature and dust. It has an upgradeable CPU module, memory, hard drive capacity and peripheral modules. A Sunlight Readable Transflective Display is available as an option, as is an optional I/O Expansion Stick allowing additional input/output connections. Two front bays house one or two 3.5-hour batteries, or one battery and a DVD, DVD/CD-RW, CD-RW, CD-ROM or floppy drive.

At the heart of the ReVolution is Kontron's new QuickSilver CPU module with a 1.06 GHz (or higher) Intel Pentium (R) III-M Processor. The QuickSilver CPU module ships standard with 128MB SDRAM (upgradeable to 640MB) and operating system support for Windows XP Professional, 2000 and 98.

It also has optional integrated, wireless communications technology. Embedded Bluetooth technology is included for wireless PAN connectivity. It also features optional CDPD, CDMA or GSM for wireless WAN and Spread Spectrum wireless LAN (802.11b) capabilities.

Kontron is now accepting orders for the product and expects to begin shipping initial units in October. Revolution estimated list price is $5,095.
