Philips' Linux Powers Single Chip SOHO Gateway

San Jose, Ca. --- Royal Philips Electronics has introduced a Linux-based broadband network Gateway-on-a-Chip with a support package that also includes all of the necessary processors, software and boards for developing small office/home office (SOHO) broadband routers.

Included as a part of Philips' Linux Software Release 3.0 International Computer Security Association (ICSA)-certifiable Firewall and Virtual Private Network (VPN).

The hardware/software SOHO gateway solution is designed to operate at greater than 90 Megabits per second (Mbps) for IPSec VPN and up to 100 Mbps for Firewall.

Included as a part of its Gateway-on-a-Chip multi-processor architectural solution, are several Linux-enabled processors, the PTD2002 for wireless and security routers, PTD211X for Voice-over IP (VoIP)-enabled routers, PTD2210 for xDSL routers and PTD241X for voice-over-broadband routers.

All are based on an common 133 Megahertz SOC design that incorporates a system processor, a packet processor and IPSec engine. In addition to a number of standard system interfaces, two 10/100 Ethernet MAC interfaces are also integrated for easy connectivity.

Philips' Release 3.0 for Linux includes a software platform and complete VoIP, Firewall and VPN applications as well as a small footprint Linux kernel, advanced networking, Network Address Translation (NAT), WLAN access point and extensive management and configuration tools based on Web, SNMP and CLI. The VoIP supports MGCP/NCS and H.323.
