Toshiba low power 32-bitter aims at consumersBy Bernard Cole Tokyo, Japan - Targeting consumer devices such asPDAs, electronic dictionaries and their wired equivalent iappliances Toshiba Corp. has built a 32 bit CPU that consumes only 75 milliwatts at 20 MHz, which it claims is the lowest in the industry. Other features of the device include full compatibility with its proprietary 16-bit microcomputers, TLCS-900/L, TLCS-900/L1 and TLCS-900/H core, and a C-compiler for program encoding as well as integration of LCD and USB 1.1 controller functions. TheTMP92CH21FG, incorporates a phase-locked loop (PLL) circuit that converts 10MHz external signals to the CPU's internal clock rate of 20MHz, and integrated controllers for color LCD, USB and NAND flash memory.
