Redwood City, Ca. -- Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. has unveiled new versions of its Firewall-1 that incorporates support for IPv6 security specifications for a wide range of iappliance applications. The new security enhancements include support for securing Internet Protocol version 6, Peer-to-Peer and Instant Messaging applications and Microsoft Printer and File Sharing Services, also referred to as Common Internet File System (CIFS).

Through its patented Stateful Inspection, Check Point is the first and only vendor in the industry to provide comprehensive security to control these applications.Traditionally, enterprises have not had the ability to identify and control Peer-to-Peer applications traversing the firewall. With current firewall implementations, Peer-to-Peer traffic is either blocked altogether or allowed to pass through the firewall as simple HTTP traffic, potentially allowing rogue or malicious packets into the network.

The approach Check Point has taken with its Stateful Inspection technology is to inherently recognize and control HTTP-based applications and popular Instant Messaging products by enabling granular inspection and access control of applications traveling through the firewall. The FireWall-1 maintains detailed application information to deliver complete network protection.

The new improvements are available in the latest version of Check Point VPN-1/FireWall-1 Next Generation, Feature Pack 3.
