D-Link Marries Firewire and USB 2 serial linksBy Bernard Cole Irvine, Ca. --- D-Link Inc., acting as the technology equivalent of a trade ambassador looking to bring two warring parties together, has built an interface adapter card that incorporates USB 2.0 and the Firewire. The 400 mbps FireWire, or IEEE 1394, is the main means by which a wide variety of consumer electronics devices are link to PCs, while the 480 mbps USB 2.0 is the standard mechanism by which peripheral devices are linked to a PC. Designated the DFB-A5, the PCI adapter features two external USB 2 and two FireWire ports. Users can insert the card, which also offers an internal FireWire port, inside their PC. The product sells for around $90. Other new D-Link USB 2 products just launched include an Ethernet adapter, a five-port PCI card and a four-port hub. Respectively, the products sell for around $70, $60 and $50. For more information, go to www.dlink.com. |
