NTRU's Neo Secures Wireless Java iappliancesBy Bernard Cole Burlington, Mass. - NTRU Inc. has released Neo for Java, a security software framework and platform aimed at all wireless Java devices and applications. Currently, it has been difficult to deploy wireless Java security in mass-market mobile phones and data oriented iappliance small footprint devices primarily due to size and speed constraints. NTRU Neo for Java is designed to provide encrypted data transfer and user authentication services in a memory footprint of no more than 5 kilobytes in size and, the company claims, more than 100 times faster than legacy Java security solutions. Traditionally, security has been one of the most processor-intensive procedures for wireless devices. Performance is further degraded when running inside a Java virtual machine; legacy security systems operate so slowly on mid-range and low-end phones that they are impractical for most uses. Neo for Java is optimized for a complete range of devices from low-end mobile phones to high- end smart phones. The developer tool kit includes Neo for Java, the standard version, and Neo for JavaKE (kilobyte edition), a smaller version designed specifically for space-constrained environments. NTRU Neo for Java supports J2ME and Java virtual machines. It is available now. For more information, go to www.ntru.com.
