Irvine, Ca. -- D-Link Inc. has extended the 802.11b wireless capabilities of its AirPlus DWL-900AP+ 802.11b Bridging Wireless Access Point so that it now acts as a repeater for other D-link access points, increasing overall range.

It also has more monitoring capabilities with the addition of a site survey function. The D-Link DWL-900+ now ships with these new functions and is identified by the version 2.20 firmware. All existing D-Link customers with a DWL-900AP+ can now download the firmware absolutely free from www.dlink.com/dwl900ap+.

The new software function deploys the D-Link AirPlus DWL-900AP+ as a repeater when used in conjunction with either a wireless router or a second wireless access point.

The new repeater function allows the D-Link AirPlus DWL-900AP+ to receive the signal from a wireless router or access point at up to 328 feet away and then to rebroadcast it to wireless clients on the outside edge of the network.

The repeater capability creates a stronger and faster connection for wireless clients that are at the furthest extremities of the network. When set to run in the enhanced 802.11b mode the DWL-900AP+ delivers even higher performance at greater distances.

The new firmware repeater function supports wireless routers and access points in the D-Link AirPlus line of wireless networking products, as well as the enhanced 802.11b side of the D-Link AirPro line of dual band products.

The included Site Survey tool for the network updates the web-based interface of the DWL-900AP+ allowing users to easily find wireless access points within range of the DWL-900AP+. The Site Survey tool will perform a search for wireless APs within range and display their MAC address in a window, along with an indicator that shows if WEP encryption has been implemented.
