Marvell ups stakes in cable modems with Yukon controllerBy Bernard Cole Sunnyvale, Ca. -- To make the desktop PC in the home and small office for Internet-centric capable, Marvell Corp. has just released its Yukon Gigabit Ethernet controller, with not only performance up to 1 gigabit per second but a range of software drivers and integrated cable testing. In addition to 10/100/1000 baseT Ethernet plug and play connectivity, the Yukon integrates its Alaska Gigabit PHY with its Gigabit MAC and a complete suite of software drivers. Claining it is the first in the industry to do so, Marvell has also incorporated advanced cable diagnosticsusing its Virtual Cable Tester technology, which allows identification of cabling issues with pinpoint accuracy, reducing network deployment and maintenance costs. The Yukon product is optimized for 32-bit PCI clients and comes supplied with software device drivers for all operating system platforms, including Microsoft Windows 98/Me, NT, 2000, and XP, Linux, SUN OS, IBM AIX, Novell Netware, and HP-UX.
