Santa Clara, Ca. – Recognizing the increasingly consumer-oriented environment at the network edge where features and cost are paramount, Intoto Inc.has just introduced two software-based gateway platforms that will allow OEMs to rapidly reconfigure existing hardware designs for the right mix of security, wireless, voice and wired network capabilities.

The iGateway RGS product family is targeted at the residential gateway (RG) and small office/home office (SOHO) networking systems while the iGateway EX product family is designed for Small-to-Medium-size Enterprises (SME).

“The residential market for networking appliances is crowded and fast-paced.  OEMs respond to customer needs by integrating popular features such as security, voice, and wireless into their products,” said Charles Kolodgy, research director of security products at IDC.  “In order to compete successfully, the vendors must be able to integrate those features quickly and cost effectively.”

With previous alternatives, said Doug Makishima, vice president of marketing at Intoto, this was often easier said than done. “Whereas OEMs once bought “software stacks” or small low-level software building blocks, they are now looking to software Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs) for more flexible turnkey software solutions,” he said, that allow them to reduce development costs, and speed their products’ time-to-market.

The iGateway RGS family includes three platforms incorporating bridging, routing, WAN protocol support, wireless connectivity, stateful inspection firewall, wireless security, IPsec VPN, and VoIP.

A key feature of the software platforms, said Kolodgy, is that it is agnostic to hardware platforms, operating systems, and accelerators, and works with the industry’s leading hardware, processor and OS/RTOS providers, including Intel, Motorola, Broadcom, LSI, Cavium Networks, Hifn, WindRiver, MontaVista Software among others.

The iGateway EX is also offered in three different platforms for SME and enterprise networking equipment, the EX SecureICP, EX SecureSME and EX SecureEnterprise.
