The SuperLink-MLP16 chipset (ES2845S/ES2851) from ESS Technology offers simultaneous connectivity and support for 16-Mbps home phone line networking, 10/100 fast Ethernet local area network (LAN) capabilities, and 56k V.90/V.92 modem Internet access.

This chipset allows users to connect multiple PCs in the home or small office to share Internet access, files, or peripherals over a network. The MLP16 is digital and media-ready with priority-based queuing quality of service, enabling real-time applications, such as voice and video over IP. It is compatible with existing telephone service, V.90/V.92 and other analog modems, ADSL, and ISDN voice/data.

The ES2845S is a HomePNA 2.0-compliant controller with an integrated MAC/PHY and adaptive equalizer for packet filtering, packaged as a 128-pin, low profile quad flat pack (LQFP). The 48-pin LQFP ES2851 serves as the analog front end for the chipset.

“The MLP16 provides true concurrent triple-technology connectivity by supporting 16-Mbps home phone line networking, and 10/100 fast Ethernet LAN capabilities, along with a V.90/V.92 56k host-based modem. Sampling of this product is scheduled for Q2 2001, with full production of the chipset and software drivers beginning in the following quarter,” said William K. Wong, Vice President of Marketing for ESS Technology.
