Lineo, Inc., adds to its SecureEdge product line by offering original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) Linux based SecureEdge Network Attached Storage (NAS) and SecureEdge Firewall appliance platform reference designs, architected for low-cost network access and remote management.

The SecureEdge Firewall includes a router, firewall, PPTP and IPSec VPN capabilities. Based on the Motorola ColdFire MCF5272 processor, the SecureEdge Firewall runs uCLinux. Its standard interfaces include a 10Base-T Ethernet port for broadband connection through a cable modem, DSL modem, or other broadband service. Aseparate 10/100 Ethernet port or 4-port 10/100 hub for local LAN connection is also built-in.

The SecureEdge NAS platform provides network file management and network storage using onboard hard disk drives. Both units are housed in compact ABS plastic enclosures and include a serial port for dial-up remote management and modem backup for broadband connection.

These appliance platform designs extend Lineo's existing line of Linux-based SecureEdge OEM appliance platform designs. The SecureEdge family is produced by Lineo for low volume prototyping (<1000 units) and made available to OEMs interested in licensing the designs for high volume production and marketing.
