3Com Home Wireless GatewaybySo you finally got a high-speed Internet connection at home. Your need for speed has been quenched, and you are in browsing heaven. The problem? Your kids are complaining because they can not get on the Internet at the same time you can. Or your computer is the only one hooked up to the printer, so they can not print anything while you are on your computer. You need a network. Does the thought of running wires up and down your halls not sound enticing? Well, take a look at the Home Wireless Gateway from 3Com. Designed for homes that are privileged enough to have cable, DSL, or ISDN connections, the Home Wireless Gateway will allow you and your family to share files, Internet access, and external devices, like printers and scanners. It works with any Wi-Fi-certified client device or a wired 10Mbps or 10/100 Mbps Ethernet card to create secure wireless, or wired, connections throughout your house. The Gateway automatically finds and connects up to 35 wireless-enabled clients, as long as they are within 300 feet of the device. And with no additional software to load, the hassle of creating a network has been greatly diminished. The Gateway is equipped with a 10Mbps RJ45 port for broadband connection and three 10/100 switched RJ45 Ethernet ports for wired desktop and/or laptop connections. As far as your wireless LAN connection speed is concerned, it will range from 1Mbps to 11Mbps, depending on factors related to your specific location. The Gateway also supports TCP/IP, IPX/SPX, NetBEUI, DHCP, 802.11b, PPPoE, and NAT protocols. Because these relevant protocols are supported, the Gateway can also be configured via the Internet If security is a concern, you will be relieved to know that the Gateway includes VPN support for secure remote access to corporate networks, as well as a built-in firewall, 40-bit encryption, and a private network ID.
