NEXiO S150

by

Catering to the growing need of the "connected" portion of the human race to be able to access information anytime, anywhere, Samsung has developed the NEXiO S150. A wireless handheld PC, the NEXiO gives users a light, compact, visually appealing device they can use to set up appointments, give presentations, or even conduct Internet research.

NEXiO S150

Mobile devices require high-quality displays -- after all, if you can't read or see the information you are looking for properly, what good is it? The NEXiO addresses this specific need with a 5-inch reflective LCD screen with a WVGA (800 x 480) resolution. This setup mimics desktop viewing. And what can you view on this screen? Quite alot.

Of primary interest to most of those curious about this Windows CE-based device is Internet connectivity. Well, the NEXiO has it -- out of the box. It is equipped with a cdma2000 module that will allow you to send and receive packets of data as you wish. While this is quite exciting, a device that can wirelessly connect to the Internet is only mildly useful. It's the whole package that makes a device a truly "must-have" gadget.

In addition to wireless connectivity, the NEXiO comes with a group of applications, including PocketWord, spreadsheet, e-mail, and PIM software. A VGA port will even allow you to conduct a presentation directly from the device. Besides that, the device has a USB port, which you can use to connect to a mouse, keyboard, memory card, or other peripherals. Some of Samsung's optional accessories include a GPS receiver, 802.11b module, a digital camera, or a memory pack. The memory pack may be something to consider, because the NEXiO does not come with a PC or CompactFlash card slot, so you will need another way to expand the 32 MB of Flash ROM and 64 MB of SDRAM included in the NEXiO.

All work and no play is hardly feasible, so Samsung has addressed the need for entertainment with an e-book reader, an MP3 player, and games.

The Nexio S150 measures 6.09 x 3.58 x 0.59 inches and weighs 8.46 oz.

Pricing and Availability

The NEXiO S150 is currently available in Korea for around $850. A US version of the device will be released later this year.
