CerfCube

by

The CerfCube is a tool designers can use as a jumping-off point for developing server appliances, data collection devices, office automation products, or other embedded devices.

Home Wireless Gateway

Designed in conjunction with Intel, the CerfCube comes pre-loaded with Windows CE 3.0 or Linux kernel 2.4. Though it's kind of cute, the 3" x 3" x 3" cube is not something to play around with. This little box is loaded up with a board that measures 2.24" x 2.73," but makes complete use if its limited real estate. It uses an Intel StrongARM 1110 CPU board and a microprocessor running at 133/206 MHz with 16 MB of Flash and 32 MB of SDRAM. For the Windows versions, custom memory configurations are available.

CerfCube allows developers to test data connectivity using a 10BaseT Ethernet RJ45 port, USB Type B port, or an RS232 serial port. It even supports Type I and Type II cards, including IBM microdrive, Compact Flash memory cards, barcode readers, wireless modems, and Bluetooth cards. For other input/output testing, the CerfCube comes with 16 digital lines, which have programmable interrupt capability. Four of the digital lines have buffered LED indicators for monitoring during testing.

Depending on the version you choose, the CerfCube will ship with Linux, Apache Web Server, Sendmail, Blackdown Java, Perl, SSH, and DHCP software or Windows CE, deviceWEB (an extensible Web server for Windows CE), deviceRMS WebSuite (for remote management via a Web browser), and deviceSTORE (for a persistent registry and file system in the Intel StrataFlash) from Intrinsyc.

Pricing and Availability

Both versions of the CerfCube are currently available for $495.
