Franklin eBookMan

by

The eBookMan from Franklin Electronics Publishers, Inc., provides a reading experience in a Pocket PC format. With three different models to choose from, users can download electronic books, audio books, and MP3 music files, as well as use their eBookMan for personal information management functions. To ensure a greater selection of books for their readers, users are also able to download content created for Microsoft Reader.

eBookMan

The eBookMan has a proprietary 24MB 32-bit RISC processor, and comes with either 8 or 16 MB RAM depending on the model. Up to 64 MB of additional memory can be added using the MultiMediaCard slot. The device features a 240 x 200 pixel, 16-level grayscale display with touch screen and handwriting recognition. It has a microphone for voice recording, built in speaker, and headphone jack. Its USB interface allows for quick syncronization with a PC and a cradle is included for some models.

The eBookMan has a variety of software, however, it does not come preloaded on the device. Instead, users must download the eBookMan operating system version 1.0 and applications from the Franklin Website. There are two different download packages to chose from: the basic package uses 1.6 MB, while 6 MB is needed for the full package, which includes personal information management functions. Core applications for the eBookMan include: Microsoft Reader, Franklin Reader, Audiobook Player, Music Player, Date Book, Address Book, Voice Memo, Memo Book, ToDo Book, and Calculator. The eBookMan Desktop Manager Software, powered by Intellisync, synchronizes personal information management applications with Microsoft Outlook.

The eBookMan is 5.17 x 3.39 x 0.67 inches, weighs 6.5 oz., and runs on two AAA batteries.
