Symantec Gateway Security Model 5300byIn many cultures thoughout history, gateways represent passage between civilization and the uncivilized world. And why should the Internet by any different. At least that what Symantec believes and why it has introduced its' Symantec Gateway Security appliances. These devices provide an impenetrable wall with controlled access to the uncivilized Internet. Symantec Gateway Security is an integrated gateway security appliance with five security functions designed to prevent breaches at a corporate network perimeter.
Sold by the number network nodes that can that gateway can support, the Symantec Gateway Security appliance Model 5110 on the low end is geared toward small businesses supporting up to 50 nodes. For medium size firms up to 250 nodes, Symantec offers the 5200 and on the high-end Symantec offers the 5300 which can support up to 1000 computers. Designed to fit in standard 1U 19 inch rack, it's dimensions measure 17.5in x 22.75in x 1.75in and weighs in at 23.5lbs. Onboard are four 10/100MB Ethernet ports, 2 serial ports, and an LCD display. Symantec like others in the security and other application industry are turning towards appliances to improve their ability to manage, upgrade and service customers in the most cost effective and convenient fashion.
