There are a variety of uses for a Web pad, just like there are a variety of uses for a computer. And while there are those that would buy an off-the-shelf, "standard" computer, most computer-literate individuals would create a list of specifications that the computer must have before they buy it. Two Technologies has taken that same philosophy and added it to the Web pad market. Corporate buyers, developers, and general users can select the specific features they want in a device and have it customized for their needs.

The most obvious customizable feature when looking at the device is the display. With the display, you have four options: 640 x 480 TFT color, 640 x 480 STN color, 320 x 240 monochrome, or 320 x 240 STN color. So if you like clarity and long battery life, monochrome would probably be the way to go, but if you want color, well, go for color. The choice is yours.

Other not-so-obvious options include the ability to have one or two PCMCIA card slots, a user-configurable RS-232/422/485 port, an IrDA interface with front and rear facing sensors, memory ranging from 8MB to 16MB of Flash EPROM, or 16MB to 32MB of DRAM, and even the option of a rechargeable NiMH or Dry Cell battery. SoundBlaster audio compatibility is also optional, so users can turn the TouchLite into a multimedia device.

Standard features of the TouchLite include a touch screen, a rotate screen button (except for the monochrome display), two serial ports, a RS-232 only port, a 100 MHz 486 microprocessor, and the Windows CE 2.12 operating system.

The rugged enclosure measures 6.52 x 9.66 x 2.37 inches and weighs 43.5 oz.

Pricing of the TouchLite depends on the options you choose, but OEM pricing begins at $1280 per device.
