X-tendbyThe X-tend from DOT Design Technologies based on the National Semiconductor Geode processor sports a 10.4" XGA 1024x768 24bit color TFT display to allow for picture perfect viewing. The kids can take their homework assignments to their room or Dad can play with the universal remote in the TV room. Weighing in at just under 5 pounds, this web tablet is not going to break anyone's back. The X-tend was specifically designed for use in the house to extend the existing computing resources through 802.11 WiFi wireless network or a wired Ethernet networks. Built are stereo speakers and a headphone jack, a microphone jack, 2 USB ports for a mouse and/or an external keyboard. This peripheral set allows the X-tend web tablet to be used like an extension of a computer or a standalone touchscreen device . The X-tend was priced to match the budget and expectations of a home user with a target price of under $700. On-board it comes plenty of memory 64MB for content and application caching with local removable storage on a Type II Compact Flash card.
That right this is an open source Linux based device made for developers, tech savvy consumers and value added integrators to take and extend its functionality in home applications with other types of devices, computers or appliances installed on the home.
